COLLAGE ILLUSTRATION -or- SCAPE #3

 COLLAGE ILLUSTRATION -or- 'SCAPE 3:

'SCAPE that is entirely of your own creation, and incorporates 10+ elements.
The 'scape can be a cityscape, landscape, surreal scape, dream scape...it does not need to grounded in reality. Odd, unexpected, surprising are good.

-or-

An COLLAGE ILLUSTRATION that incorporates 10+ elements (including, but not limited to photographic collage, use of text, color application through paint/brushes, and...)

Some ideas on which to base your illustration:
-a poem
-a theme from a book
-a song lyric
-an album cover
-a concert poster/flyer
-a personal belief mantra or phrase
-a political movement/cause in which you believe
-a personal life philosophy
-an homage to a figure/hero
-a critique of an idea
-the front cover of a greeting card
-a commentary about a cause/issue near to your heart & mind
-something of your choosing...

*All imagery used must meet TTSD guidelines for school conduct. Ask if you are unsure.

To begin:
1. Conduct a search for 'graphic design collage' (maybe refine your search with additional words like clever, modern, retro, etc. and let images soak into your psyche.
2. From the list above, decide on a topic/theme and then begin your image search.
3. Create a canvas that is 11x14in with resolution of 300.
4. When ready, begin selecting and piecing together your work.

*You will likely be searching for images throughout the process. Begin with one. It will likely lead you to another image idea, and so on...

The final image must incorporate
-A textual element
-10+ selected/cut-out graphic and/or photographic elements
-Extend to all four quadrants of the canvas
-Use color in intentional way. A color scheme? (https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel)
-At least EIGHT of the 10+ elements must overlap with 'something' else

RATIONALE (WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?)
To practice and focus skills in Photoshop regarding layersplacing/rasterizing, adjusting color/valueedit+transforming selections, selection tools.

THE IMAGE.
If you are creating a third 'scape, follow the guidelines for the previous two. Create THREE separate 'scape composite images.
Use very high-resolution images (1000x1000 minimum) from image searches.
See links below.
*Make sure you set your image search parameters to finding large files.
Each composite will be a combination of separate images/elements.
2.    IMAGE ONE must be a LANDSCAPE (no people or animals).
3.    The other TWO composites can be a landscape, space scape, city scape, or interior space, and include people/animals/food/landscapes/etc.

MAKE SURE TO DO THE FOLLOWING.
Use multiple photographic sources to create a believable -or- surreal photographic composite image that illustrates an understanding of perspective.

THINGS TO CONSIDER.
Sometimes the more images you use the more interesting your piece becomes.
Have fun with it, but make sure you create SEAMLESS additions to your overall image.
Your final images should look somewhat believable in terms of size and perspective of the different components you have pieced together.

CANVAS SIZE FOR EACH IMAGE.
-11 x 14 inches
-resolution 300
-landscape -or- portrait orientation is OK.

NAMING EACH FINAL IMAGE.
Name each of your final image like the following:
LASTNAME-Scape3.jpg
-or-
LASTNAME-CollageIllustration.jpg

FOR THE FINISHED VERSION OF EACH IMAGE:

*Save EACH final image as a .JPG
-and-
*Save EACH final image as an unflattened .PSD

(Save AS function, and change the FORMAT menu to the appropriate file extension)

Examples:  CARTER.Scape3.jpg -or- CARTER.Scape3.psd
CARTER.CollageIllustration.jpg -or- CARTER.CollageIllustration.psd
SCORING.
Each scape will be scored on the rubric (below) up to FOUR points if it has met all the basic criteria.
TWELVE points total are possible for the entire three-image project.

GOALS FOR SCORING WELL.
Quality work & careful craftsmanship.
'Seamless' combining (via selection and eraser tools) of the components.
Knowledge of perspective is incorporated and (at least) somewhat believable.
Tonality/color/light is addressed (via burn/dodge, image+adjustments, etc.)
